The puzzle protein is part of troponin, a complex of three proteins. This particular protein is known as troponin C, and is a component of the troponin found in the heart muscle of ordinary chickens, Gallus gallus. Along with the other components, troponin I and troponin T, troponin is responsible for the contraction of cardiac and skeletal muscle.
