The Disable Band command as seen in the Foldit GUI recipe editor.

Disable Band is a command used in GUI recipes in Foldit. It appears as "Disable Band" in the list of commands, then as "Disable" when selected.

As the name suggests Disable Band temporarily disables one or more bands. The command Enable Band can be used to reverse this change. A disabled band does not pull on the protein during Wiggle and other operations which change the shape of the protein.

Disable Band uses one ingredient, bands.

The bands ingredient can be specified in three ways:

  • All
  • Connected
  • User Pick

Using "all" for the bands ingredient causes all bands to be disabled.

The "connected" option for the bands ingredient disables only bands which connect two segments. This is the only type of band which can be created in a GUI recipe. It's also possible to create spacebands, which start on a segment, but end on a point in space. Spacebands can be created manually, or by using a Lua recipe.

Note: in a recent release, 20201120-8f78be34c4-win_x86-devprev, the "connected" option seems to disable only spacebands.

The "user pick" option for the bands ingredient means the user is prompted to pick bands by clicking on them when the recipe reaches the command. It's similar to the user pick option for the segments ingredients in other GUI recipes. The user pick option in GUI recipe does not have an equivalent anywhere else in Foldit. See user pick for more on this option.

The Disable Band command is similar to disabling bands manually in the original or selection interfaces. The equivalent Lua commands are band.Disable or band.DisableAll.
