The Change Band Strength command as seen in the Foldit GUI recipe editor.

Change Band Strength is a command used in GUI recipes in Foldit. It appears as "Change Band Strength" in the list of commands, then as "Set strength" when selected.

As the name suggests, Change Band Strength changes the strength or one or more bands.

Change Band Strength uses two ingredients: strength and bands.

The strength ingredient is a real number with two decimal places, ranging from 0.0 to 10.0. It's set using a slider.

The bands ingredient can be specified in three ways:

  • All
  • Connected
  • User Pick

Using "all" for the bands ingredient causes the strength of all bands to be changed.

The "connected" option for the bands ingredient only changes the strength of bands which connect two segments. This is the only type of band which can be created in a GUI recipe. It's also possible to create spacebands, which start on a segment, but end on a point in space. Spacebands can be created manually, or by using a Lua recipe.

Note: in a recent release, 20201120-8f78be34c4-win_x86-devprev, the "connected" option only seems to change the strength of spacebands. This seems to be the opposite of the intended effect.

The "user pick" option for the bands ingredient means the user is prompted to pick bands by clicking on them when the recipe reaches the command. It's similar to the user pick option for the segments ingredients in other GUI recipes. The user pick option in GUI recipe does not have an equivalent anywhere else in Foldit. See user pick for more on this option.

The Change Band Strength command is similar to changing the strength of bands manually in the original or selection interfaces. The equivalent Lua command is band.SetStrength.
