Add bands is a command used in GUI recipes in Foldit. It appears as "Add bands" in the list of commands, and then "Add band" when selected.

As the name suggests, Add bands adds bands between one or more pairs of segments.

Add bands uses two ingredients, both specifying segments.

A protein without bands.

The first "segments" ingredient specifies the segments to use starting point for each band. The second "segments" ingredient specifies the ending point for each band.

The result of Add bands command with "all" specified for both "segments" ingredients.

Both the "segments" ingredients can be specified in three ways:

  • All
  • By Stride
  • User Pick

Using "all" for the segments ingredient causes a band to start and/or end on each of the segments in the puzzle. While it's legal to choose "all segments" for both of the "segments" ingredients, the result is unlikely to be useful.

In contrast, using "by stride" for the segments ingredient causes only specific segments to be b anded. See by stride for more on this option.

The "user pick" option for the segments ingredient means the user is prompted to pick segments by clicking on them when the recipe reaches the command. A user pick is similar to selecting segments in the selection interface, but there are some differences. See user pick for more on this option.

See Segments Ingredient for a complete explanation of specifying segments.

The Add bands command is similar to banding segments manually in the original or selection interfaces. The equivalent Lua commands ise band.AddBetweenSegments.
