band.SetGoalLength Edit

void band.SetGoalLength(integer bandIndex, number length)
Set the goal length of a band. (Range 0.0 to 10000.0)
V1 Function Name

Remarks Edit

This is the "unstretched" or "true" length of the band, like the normal length of a rubber band at rest in real life.

If the current length of the band (as set by band.Add, which is 3.5, or read by band.GetLength) is less than the goal length, the band will push the endpoints apart.

If the current length is more than the goal length, it will pull the endpoints closer.

Important: The Goal Length of every band is automatically set to 3.5 when each and every one of them are created on Foldit as of June 21st, 2020. One of the reasons for this is because when you are banding sheets together, you can’t have them overlap and be in the same place, which is clashing.

So, if you are planning to have part of a protein being pulled to an exact fixed point in space (Band to Space - BiS), then set the Goal Length to 0. Donuts554 found this out the hard way when alpha testing out the FreezeShakr 1.1.0 recipe on June 21st, 2020.

Sample Edit

This script sets the length of all bands to 0.

for ii = 1, band.GetCount () do
    band.SetGoalLength ( ii, 0)
