Monomer Design puzzles are the most basic type of design puzzle.
A monomer design puzzle involves a single protein chain. Most monomer design puzzles start with a straight extended chain.
Normally, all of the segments in a monomer design puzzle are Mutable, meaning the amino acid be changed or "mutated".
A monomer design doesn't involve other protein chains or molecules.
In contrast, in a Symmetry Puzzle, there are multiple identical protein chains. The goal of a symmetry puzzle is not only to design a monomer, but to design a monomer that binds to one or more identical copies of itself.
Similarly, in a Binder Puzzle also involves designing a monomer, but the monomer must also bind to a specific target. Binder puzzle targets can be proteins or other, non-protein molecules.
